Therapy for Mums 〰️

Motherhood can bring enormous change and still feel much harder than you expected.

Perhaps you feel overwhelmed by the responsibility of looking after your little one.

Is your mind is constantly thinking ahead, wondering if something is wrong or questioning whether you are doing enough?

You may wonder why other Mums seem to be finding it easier and why motherhood doesn't feel quite how you imagined.

Somewhere amongst it all of this, you may feel that you have lost sight of yourself.

I help anxious mums of little ones feel less consumed by worry.

Is Your Worry Becoming Overwhelming?

Some worry comes naturally with caring deeply about a little person who depends on you.

But there is a difference between everyday concern and feeling as though your mind is constantly working overtime.

You might check, seek reassurance, research, replay decisions or try to think through every possibility in the hope of finally feeling certain that everything is okay.

Often, the relief does not last.

Therapy can help us understand what is driving that anxiety rather than simply trying to make the thoughts disappear.

Together, we can look at the patterns keeping worry going, the beliefs and experiences sitting underneath it, and what your mind may be trying so hard to protect you from.

The aim is not to become a mum who never worries.

It is for worry to feel less consuming — leaving more room for you to feel present in your life and experience more of the moments that anxiety can otherwise overshadow.

Hi,

I’m Abby.

A BABCP-accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and EMDR practitioner. I offer specialist online psychological therapy for anxiety and overwhelm in the early years of motherhood.

I have clinical experience across maternal and perinatal mental health, complex trauma and health psychology.

I am also a Registered Mental Health Nurse and Independent Prescriber.

Alongside Maternal Space, I work part time as a Psychological Therapist within NHS Health Psychology.

My clinical background means I bring a broad psychological understanding to anxiety. I am interested not only in what you are experiencing now, but in the experiences, beliefs and patterns that may help us understand why you are feeling this way.

I also understand, both professionally and personally, that becoming a mother can be an enormous adjustment — and that love for your child can sit alongside anxiety, overwhelm, uncertainty and a sense that you have somehow lost a little of yourself along the way.

My approach is warm, calm and compassionate, while keeping therapy focused and purposeful.
